I think it's time HUGELOL gets it's own servers. Renting server becomes far too expensive ($1000 each month according the the admins), and it's one of the soul causes to why he had the split. The bills don't pay themselves, and thus HUGELOL needs advertisements. In-house servers would (supposedly) drastically lower the cost of the website. HUGELOL is basically a business now, and it needs to start acting like it as well. Instead of shoving the good members of your community out because the server costs money, start taking our advices and do something good to the website. In-house servers would allow for much more freedom on the site, and in return create a far more active community.
So please, HUGELOL, stop shooting yourself in the foot and listen for once.

We had this problem years ago when I was in a Counterstrike Clan and our servertraffic got too big, because we somehow managed to fill up 7 different (game-)server 24/7.

We don't have the option to go for in-house servers. There are a lot of benefits to using Amazon AWS (=what we currently use): - Fast connection (The biggest point. This is NOT possible with in-house servers. We doubt anyone would use our site with in-house servers as the upload tends to be really slow.) - Fully scalable (thus minimizing the cost for the current flow of traffic) - Secure - Easy to work with (all modules are seperate from each other) - Backups are automated (data-loss is nearly impossible) - Server failure is not possible (we can just clone the server and it will be up and running again within minutes) - No server maintenance cost On the downsides there is obviously the big cost factor. However, right now the budget is working out, so that's good. Here's a few more benefits to using the Amazon Cloud Services: aws.amazon.com/en/what-is-cloud-computing/
